The objective of the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) is to address two of the most pressing problems for the majority of children in India, namely - hunger and education, by improving the nutritional status of Children in classes while encouraging children belonging to disadvantaged sections to attend school more regularly and help them concentrate on classroom activities and providing nutritional support to children of primary stage in drought-affected areas during summer vacation. It was modified further in 2006 Extended to Upper Primary Schools (Classes VI to VIII) in October, 2008 and High Schools (Classes IX & X) also in October, 2008 with 100% state funds.
The Director, School Education Department, Government of Mizoram requested the SIRD & PR, Mizoram to conduct MDM Social Audit in various districts within Mizoram. The Social Audit Coordination and Facilitation Unit (SACFU) was established at the Institute for Conducting MDM and monitoring the implementation of the Social Audit under Mid Day Meal Scheme within the State.
Hence, Kolasib (20 Schools), Mamit (20 Schools) districts were audited during 2016- 17, Lunglei (30 schools) and Champhai (30 schools) districts during 2017-19.
Further, Serchhip (20 Schools) and Saitual (20 Schools) also audited during 2021-22.
